About Tairua...

Location:
Tairua and Pauanui are fabulous twin coastal towns in a superb setting on the east coast of the Coromandal Peninsula, on the Pacific Ocean and are favourite holiday resorts for New Zealanders. Tairua looks out over the harbour surrounded by white sandy beaches and linked to Pauanui by 3 wharfs. At the head of the harbour is an island named Paku, this has a fascinating history and from its peak, Paku Hill gives way to panoramic views of the area and the islands laying offshore, Slipper, Shoe and the Alderman Islands. A number of charter and fishing boats operate from the wharves and the beaches are perfect for safe swimming and surfing in most conditions.

Tairua is the older of the two towns and originally a milling and farming community. Across the water Pauanui, a purposebuilt holiday community that features the country's first canal housing development. The internationally acclaimed Puka Park Resort is also found here.

Tairua is approximately 2 hours drive from Auckland, Hamilton, Rotorua, or Tauranga on sealed and scenic highways.

What to do:
From Tairua you can do day trips visiting beaches and coves, digging for hotwater on hot water beach, exploring native bush trails, dropping your line on fishing trips, chartering boats visiting islands and much more.
What ever your time and inclination, you can explore the Coromandal peninsula from north to south, or rest and relax on a secluded beach, eat the best of fresh New Zealand food and experience local hospitality.

Tairua enjoys some of the best climate in New Zealand with an average of 24c in the summer and no lower than 6c in the winter.
